The poetry pieces must be typed and no more than 200 words and be on the topic of Ireland or St Patrick. As Michael has left a grand legacy of his poetry providing expression and experiences of his memories of his homeland and emigration, we would like to continue this legacy, in honour of Michael by this Poetry competition. Any pieces sent to the Committee (either through the Parade website link or in the Royal Mail) will be adjudicated by Mr Brendan Murphy – local Lecturer and writer. The writers of the two winning pieces selected from each of the above categories will be invited to attend the Civic Ceremony of the Presentation of the Shamrock at the Good Shepherd Church Thackeray’s Lane Arnold on Saturday 14th March at 7.45pm. There will be an opportunity during the ceremony to pay tribute to Michael Hannon and the 2 pieces will be read as an apt way to do this. The adjudicator’s decision will be final. All pieces of poetry provided will be retained and if thought suitable will be published on the Parade website at a later date.

We advise any young person under 16 to discuss entering this competition with their parents and get their permission to enter before making your submission. If there is any query feel free to email the contact email address on the website.
